A step-by-step guide to Traditional Massage of Thailand, this workbook takes a comprehensive approach to learning this 2500-year-old form of bodywork with detailed drawings of each move and thorough textual descriptions. Spiral-bound for easy reference, the book guides you through all the positions including supine, prone, side lying and seated. The Thai Massage Workbook covers a full three-hour routine as taught in Thailand. Done on a mat on the floor, Thai massage uses no oils or lotions, and the recipient remains fully clothed. Sometimes referred to as "yoga for lazy people," Thai massage employs extensive, gentle stretches, compressions and point work to achieve an increase in the flow of energy through the body. While after a traditional western-style massage on the table you may feel relaxed and rested, the effect of a Thai massage is by contrast quite invigorating. The theoretical basis for Traditional Thai Medicine (of which Thai massage is a part) is the existence of 72,000 energy lines, known as sen, that run throughout the body. Thai massage addresses the ten main sen. Even though you will learn stretches that increase the range of motion throughout all the joints, the actual goal of Thai massage is to facilitate the free flow of energy along the sen, awakening your life force and strengthening the body's own healing powers.

Kay Rynerson did an excellent job preparing this book. She thoroughly takes you through 136 movements to complete a great traditional (northern style) Thai Massage. The book includes prone, supine, sideline and sitting thai massage techniques. It's simple, uncluttered layout and black & white illustrations makes it easy to stay in the flow of the massage. I wore out my copy and eventually bought the video. This workbook would make a great edition to a massage therapist reference library
Honouring The Practice of Thai Massage

In her book "The Thai Massage Workbook", Kay Rynerson maintains a supportive classroom context for the massage professional and this work is an ideal study for continuing education.
Here, is a well-defined articulation of a classic Northern style of Thai massage. This lineage was of the first to be embraced and studied in depth on foreign lands. North Americans have slowly come to recognize the precious art of Thai massage and now credit is earned where it is due. Rynerson shares the wisdom through her practice and her publishing.
The concepts outlined in "The Thai Massage Workbook" demonstrate safe and effective techniques to approach a wide variety of aches and pains, as well as to address the body from a preventative point of view. The impressionable names of each posture make them easy to remember and the clarity in the illustrations make them easy to follow visually.
Though, much of this medicine is new to the Western forum of practice, the benefits strike a chord of truth. With simplicity, Thai massage gains momentum in the hearts of all those who are open with a willing mind.

This is an extremely useful and user friendly workbook. Kay Rynerson has assembled a fantastic library of thai massage positions and put it together with straightforward description and illustration. The spiral bound workbook is also wonderful to reference when practicing new positions. I would recommend this workbook to anyone that is just beginning their thai massage practice as well as someone who has been practicing for years. It is a great contribution to our profession.
